Background of the Study
Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) are key drivers of economic growth in Nigeria. Investments in IT infrastructure, software, and digital tools can significantly enhance their operational efficiency, customer engagement, and overall competitiveness (Adamu & Bello, 2024).
However, determining the ROI from IT investments poses a significant challenge for SMEs in Bauchi State. Factors such as poor planning, inadequate training, and a lack of performance metrics often lead to suboptimal outcomes. This study explores the relationship between IT investments and ROI in SMEs, focusing on strategies to maximize returns.
Statement of the Problem
Many SMEs in Bauchi State invest in IT without clear strategies for measuring or achieving ROI. This results in underutilization of resources and unmet expectations. The lack of data-driven insights into the effectiveness of IT investments further complicates decision-making processes, leading to skepticism about the value of technology in small business operations.
Objectives of the Study
1. To examine the types and levels of IT investments among SMEs in Bauchi State.
2. To analyze the impact of IT investments on the operational and financial performance of SMEs.
3. To propose strategies for optimizing ROI from IT investments in SMEs.
Research Questions
1. What types and levels of IT investments are common among SMEs in Bauchi State?
2. How do IT investments impact the operational and financial performance of SMEs?
3. What strategies can SMEs adopt to optimize ROI from IT investments?
Research Hypotheses
1. SMEs in Bauchi State do not make significant IT investments.
2. IT investments do not significantly impact the operational and financial performance of SMEs.
3. Strategies to optimize ROI from IT investments have no significant effect.
